Can my birth partner be my doula?

So you've heard of a doula, but you're wondering if you really need one, and if you partner, your mum, your friend can be your doula instead?

The short answer is No, and here's why...

Your partner will already be fulfilling a very important role.

They are bringing you love and support, but they are not your doula. Your partner is the expert in you, your doula is the expert in birth!

A doula is an impartial third party that can support you both during labour. Most partners will experience a range of emotions from excitement to nervousness. It can be difficult to fully support someone when you are going through all those emotions.

A doula can help you both navigate those emotions and guide you through any unexpected emotions allowing your partner to be fully present with you as your partner rather than a birth attendant.

I have a range of support packages available from in person birth support to virtual doula services, to book a free discovery call with me or find out more on my website
